WASHINGTON STATE: 2/25/2006

Stanford 78, Washington State 47

There was a little sputtering at first, but
the Cardinal clinched its sixth straight
regular season Pac-10 championship.

Before tip-off, the team and the fans honored
seniors Krista Rappahahn and Shelley Nweke
and their families.

Then, on to the game.......

Jill kept things afloat almost single-handedly
in
the first half. She finished the game with
19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

Candice came on strong in the second half,
winding
up with 22 points and 3 steals.

Brooke came through with a solid effort,
scoring
11 points with 5 assists and 4 steals.

Rapp played her last game at Maples and
hit two 3 pointers.

After the game the Fast Break Club honored
Shelley and Rapp and their families. No embarrassing
stories from the families this year; everyone was on
good behavior.

The players also paid tribute to Shelley and Krista,
prompting one or two big laughs from the honorees.

And now, on to the Pac-10 Tournament!

WASHINGTON: 2/23/2006

Stanford 100, Washington 69

Wow! The Cardinal made a statement in
this second-to-last game before tournament
season begins.

Candice gave new meaning to the term "bird flu,"
flying straight from her sick
bed to amass impressive
numbers in just
25 minutes: 29 points (seven 3-pointers),
4 rebounds,
4 assists and a block!

Brooke was on her game: 20 points, 7 rebounds,
2 steals. She only fell down once, and that was

when she took a charge.

June Daugherty tried to rally the Huskies,
but it just wasn't to be their night.

At half time Dave and Marian Cortesi enjoyed
the VIP reception put on by the
team for
distinguished Fast Break Club
volunteers.

New came on strong in the second half,
finishing with 12 points.

Ezi scored points 99 and 100.......

.....and the bench went wild -- except for Karen.

them
in the first half.

ARIZONA STATE: 2/16/2006

Arizona State 62, Stanford 59

So, I forgot to bring my camera to the game.
Resourcefully, though, I shot
photos with my
cell phone.

Team trainer Marcella Shorty eagerly
volunteered
to be part of the photo blog.....

There was tension on the bench throughout
the
contest.

It turns out that cell phones don't produce
very
good action shots, but if you squint you
can see
Candice scoring two of her game high
28 points.

New was second high scorer on the team
with
11 points, 6 rebounds.

In the end, disappointment. We fell one
shot short.

Tomorrow, I'll remember my camera -- and
we'll win.

CAL:2/11/2006

Stanford 55, Cal 46

A game of smash-mouth
basketball, and Stanford won it.

With the Cardinal's scrambling, helping defense,
Devanei Hampton had a hard time getting a
good look all night long.

After nearly eight minutes of play, Cal had not scored a single point.

Candice took over the game in the second half,
finishing with a game high 25 points.

New went toe -to-toe with Cal's big women, and came
through with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Brooke contributed a hard-won 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Tara talked strategy during the game's tense final minutes......

......and was rewarded with her 500th Stanford victory.

The fans approved......

......and the team thanked the fans.

UC SANTA BARBARA: 2/9/2006

Stanford 81, UC Santa Barbara 47

The Cardinal won big, despite a sputtering offense
early in the first half. It helped that the offensive
rebounding
advantage for the game was
23 to 8 in favor of Stanford.

Jillian scored two of her game high 17 points as
Tara and Charmin
looked on. She added a
personal season high 11 rebounds.

Ezi provided a major spark, with a
career
high 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Candice got half a night off, with
14 points,
7 rebounds, 5 assists and
3 steals in
24 minutes.

Brooke weighed in with 10 points and
7 rebounds in 21 minutes.

Fan Jeanne Mayr and friend were relaxed and happy at half time,
enjoying the Cardinal's 17 point lead.

After the game, Michelle Smith told Fast Break Club
members: "This was the last game this season
Stanford can win merely by being the superior team."

OREGON STATE: 2/4/2006

Stanford 87, Oregon State 54

The Cardinal played balanced offense
(four players in double figures, ten scoring

five points or more) and tough defense.

Candice led all scorers with 24 points.

New played tough, scored 10 with 4 rebounds.

Rapp nailed two more threes,
10 points total.

Brooke hooked her way to 11 points,
and a team high 6 rebounds.

OSU's Kim Butler found Stanford's switching
defense to be a hair-raising experience.

Morgan came off the bench to contribute 5 points
and 2 blocked shots.

Emptying the bench actually increased the scoring margin.

Bill Sabbag, winner of the annual Fan Spirit Award,
gets a hug from Rapp.
